The Annex

Los Angeles, CA

Adaptive reuse of the 8-story “Ghost Hotel” in downtown Los Angeles.  Built in 1905 as an annex to the celebrated Alexandria Hotel, the upper floors have been vacant and inaccessible since 1937, following a dispute between the owner of the annex and the owner of the Alexandria, who bricked up the common hallways.

The current project consists of the conversion of the hotel to apartments on the upper floors, and lobby and restaurant/commercial space on the ground floor.  The scope includes provision of new exit stairs and elevator, replacement of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, structural and fire-life safety upgrades, as well as restoration of the opulent historic fabric on the first floor, and historic features of the residential spaces above.  The Annex is expected to begin construction in 2018-19.
